Before Sunrise, with a musical twist?

Just watched "Once". I didn't think I could do it alone, 'cuz I knew it'd be so damn sweet and cute, but I managed. :-) Bittersweet ending, the way all movie love stories should end. I don't wanna say it's realistic, but...maybe it is for the majority of encounters. Isn't that why we love Before Harry Met Sally and Before Sunrise/Sunset?

Also what is it that's so beautiful about music that it's really easy to fall for someone that makes beautiful music?

OKAY clearly I am caught up in the warm fuzziness of the movie. There is a reason there is no "love" tag for posts here. It has no place!

petaphiles

So apparently this PETA ad got rejected for airtime during the Superbowl.

'Veggie Love': PETA's Banned Super Bowl Ad

The comments on the page are interesting since they go both ways...

And although I agree that equally as inappropriate commercials air, this one actually serves no purpose. Graphic horror movie ads? They're marketing a movie. The dumb beer commercials? I mean no one really takes them seriously, and they're for a laugh. This commercial? It's a cheap shot! It's in the category of dumb beer ad, but they're trying to be taken seriously? Who's gonna be persuaded by that?

That's not to say I don't think it's an awesome commercial. I just think it was a dumb move since people already stereotype PETA supporters...

imma balla

I played in the first game of the season today in the league I joined. I'll be sure to post if I actually score any points. I was a bit timid this time around and only made 2 attempts. Both were better than bad attempts. =P

Also joined Netflix.
I had blockbuster by mail for over a year...and blockbuster total access for some of it. It was nice...not gonna lie. With Blockbuster, you can return to a brick and mortar store, and then you instantly get a free rental. And a coupon per month for a video OR game rental. But somehow I just got incredibly lazy over time. And by "somehow" I mean, duh. But that's why I got rid of that feature and only paid $5/mo and still barely had a queue with high turnover. But now I'm doing the $9/mo plan from Netflix so I can have unlimited streaming of whatever movies and whatever TV shows they offer. Somehow that is worth it to me, even if I still don't actually watch the movies I request. Yay...
My opinion: If you're not lazy and have a car, Blockbuster Total Access trumps Netflix in that you have a wider selection of free/bonus/extras from just the DVDs by mail. But Netflix is better for your average slug like me. :-)

the wonders of Vince Offer

After a few discussions with people, it has come to my attention that Vince, "the ShamWOW guy" is not yet a household name. It is here for some reason, and maybe on the East coast in general, but maybe not.

But you must see his commercials. You must understand. I want a ShamWOW and a SlapChop for no good reason. (Though to be honest I'm sold pretty easily with As Seen on TV things...)

skittles commercial

This gets added to the "videos that make me giggle list". Along with the most recent batch of cat videos (ninja cat, horror cat, and cat v printer).

simple pleasures

What a terrible/great picture.
Anyway, US Open is on. It's pouring outside, buckets. Though it's gonna stop in two hours or so, and I'm kind of sad about it. I kind of love the sound of drenching rain, knowing I am sheltered and am safe from it. And so I can work a tiny bit without thinking I should be outside. :-)

sibling rivalry

So maybe this is turning into a commercial blog. No matter. I love the Mannings. The Williams sisters are okay. The concept is beyond silly, and I only like the actual commercial (until 0:35). And I think I only like the commercial because the line "It's on like Donkey Kong" is used.

Pimp My Portfolio

This is a random commercial that I just saw on the TBS World's Funniest Commercials special. It has a special place in my heart because back when I was in Germany for a summer, all I had for a week in the empty basement of darkness and neighbors I never saw and the empty fridge was a TV that only displayed in green that had maybe 3 channels. One of them was MTV. OMG English. Yay. And Pimp My Ride was ALWAYS on. I don't know why. And that show was ridiculous. So is this commercial.

Also, YESSSS they're now playing that Jackie Chan commercial I love that's for Visa when he's trying to "get into the Olympic games"...

sweet happy love love

I'm so glad the Olympics in China means that this commercial gets more airtime. I just think it's really cute. Time for me to go to a market to find myself a cute and endearingly clumsy market boy.

olympic psych up #2

Since my obsession of the week is apparently Jackie Chan, here is a Visa commercial that will let me sleep happy.

Your bonus Jackie video of the evening (hopefully the last...) is actually of Pablo Francisco. Some of the jokes aren't funny, but his two main impressions (movie trailer/Soul Calibur game narrator man and Jackie Chan) are pretty good. He's got a GTA: San Francisco (spoof of San Andreas) sketch out there...you find it yourself. =P

all hail Jackie Chan

It's not that I didn't already know that Jackie Chan is all sorts of awesome and deserves all of the praise he got, especially in the older movies. New stuff has more wires and camera editting, aka SAFETY MEASURES. Thank goodness his insurance company doesn't let him do some things.

Anyway, JamesNintendoNerd of Youtube (whose opinion I trust in a weird way) has compiled a top ten of what he thinks to be Jackie Chan's illest stunts.

*edit BONUS!
I originally was searching Jackie Chan videos to hear him sing some stuff other than his part of "Beijing Welcomes You". =P I read on Wikipedia that he's released over 20 albums in Chinese. Unfortunately (OR VERY FORTUNATELY) I found his version of "I'll Make a Man Out of You" in Chinese, in a music video featuring Jackie Chan, Jackie Chan, and Jackie Chan.

fat Skabba boot

So last night over the course of random internetting, I found out that Jonathan Togo (nicely pictured here =P), who plays Ryan Wolfe on CSI: Miami, used to be in The El Conquistadors (formerly known as Skabba the Hut) who of course play our favorite song, "Beatdown Stomp". DAMN. Skabba's MySpace, here.

quotes from my shows

"[She] took my model. I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm SALTY."
- Jerell, on Project Runway, S5E2

"I would punch my grandmother...in the face...to get a ticket home."
- one of the camera crew involved with Deadliest Catch

"[That] was mean. Mean meaning good."
- Lil Mama, on America's Best Dance Crew

woo it's sew on!

Project Runway is back and I didn't know? And this guy is already gone? Bad me. It was supposed to be one of my favorite shows! Oh well, more for me to catch up on as I leave Bravo on every night I go home hoping for reruns. (And when it's not I'll turn to Discovery Channel for some Deadliest Catch and Mythbusters. :-P) I only started watching last season, but have since basically caught up and seen every previous season. Is it just me, or are the people starting to get overqualified to have a sort of Cinderella story.

Don't get me wrong, I like this show because of the real training and work that has to be done to get there. I mean, similar to the Architecture majors at school, people who put in the work should get their due I guess. So in the end I'm happy that people who have devoted so much time to their craft get a shot at a boost in their career. But there's something about a rando who discovers that they have immense talent that is also really nice to see...

it feels like a guilty pleasure

I don't usually watch a lot of TV, minus Project Runway and Americas Best Dance Crew. I'm a victim of reality TV. Anyway, there are also shows that I will definitely watch if I happen to turn on the TV. At first it was just Mythbusters and Family Guy and South Park or whatever...but over the past year, I've found myself more and more hooked on The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel.

In the words of my friend, "I no wanna be a fishermanz."

Crab fishing, in itself, is not super interesting. You get the gist of it after a while. You see the routine tens of times every episode. The draw is definitely a Schadenfreude kind of thing. The profession is just insane. They're just miserable and overworked for a week or two at a time...the re-run today the captain of the Cornelia Marie was convinced he had a punctured lung for about 2 and a half days before he got help.

I definitely started out thinking this was just a dumb show and they'll make a reality documentary style show about anything but now I'm hooked whenever they have mini-marathons. Damn.

everybody dance now

No joke guys. My weekend involving TV pretty much involved me watching Hannah Montana (I was curious...), America's Best Dance Crew (I love that show) and pieces of Bring It On, Bring It On Again, Bring It On: In it to Win It and Bring It On: All or Nothing (note that I said pieces...but still sad I know) oh and a VH1 special on child stars all grown up.

ANYWAY. Other than the 3rd Bring It On movie treating the white-girl-is-racist issue not so well, my lasting impression from this weekend is meet my favorite dance crew of the week, A.S.I.I.D.

I cried after their performance. Because one of the dudes is hearing impaired and can't really hear the music. And he's adorable. So I was all "yeah, you overcome that adversity, boy!!! *sob*"

Featuring a "mastermix" (I love that term) of Kardinal Offishall f/ Akon "Dangerous", their performance this week:

Big Willie Style

There really isn't a limit to how many times Will Smith can save the world, is there?

The reviews are neither here nor there. But whatever. The Fresh Prince is back again. I wonder if he did a song for the soundtrack?...
