I remember listening to an NPR program about this once...scratch off lottery tickets sold when the grand prize has already been won! Although I can understand why this is outrageous statistically when you work out price of ticket vs. possible payout, I still buy scratch off tickets even though I know a lot of the grand prizes have already been won. I feel like since I don't expect to win the grand prize anyway, that it's no loss...as long as there's something left...
